Last Friday, Poison the
Well played their first show since 2010. Poison the Well are a hardcore/metal
band from Miami, Florida and was formed in 1997. They were on a hiatus for “explore
other interests” but announce their return for the upcoming festival Skate
& Surf in Asbury Park, New Jersey. What’s crazy is that this is their first show
back and it was in New York City. Code Orange was the opener for the night.
Music Hall of Williamsburg was the venue of the show and this was my first time
going to this venue seeing a band that was not Shoegaze. This show was probably
was the heaviest shows I will ever go to at this venue.
Code Orange was the only opener of the show. This was my
fifth time seeing this band and they did not disappoint at all. Before they
started they weren’t a lot of people there maybe less than half of the sellout
crowd. I was thinking two things one, no
one is going to go crazy because most of the crowd was old and probably just
wanted to see Poison the Well. Two, if the show gets crazy for Code Orange
these people won’t know what to do. Well Code Orange went on and “My World”
started and the crowd erupted. Code Orange was on point and they brought a lot to
the table. Most of Code Orange set was off of their album I Am King but actually they played “Nothing (The Rat)” off of the
first album. Overall Code Orange was great and if you haven’t seen this band
there is something really wrong with you.
Poison the Well, the band I’ve been waiting to see this
band since 2008. I first heard about them when I saw a video from 2003 Warped
Tour. One of the best metalcore bands of the 2000’s and they were great. This
band really preforms very well. What’s interesting about that this band is that
the vocals were great and not crappy like most metalcore bands that play today.
Poison the Well was really intense and I didn’t expect the pit to be violent.
Hearing songs like “Botchla”, “Slice Paper Wrist”, and “Nerdy” got the crowd
amped up. During the song “Pamplemousse” they invited the drummer of Thursday
Tucker Rule to play on a percussions of the song. Seeing a metalcore band with
no barricades is always a cool thing. One thing I thought was lame was there
were no metalcore kids or scene kids there. It was mostly fans of the band from
the 2000’s and hardcore kids. Its seems that new era of metalcore kids care
less for Poison the Well which is weird but people are missing out if they haven’t
seen this band. I hope they go on tour because this band was great live.
Poison the Well- 9/10
Code Orange- 9.5/10
Music Hall of Williamsburg- 9/10
Overall Concert- 9/10
