ALBUM REVIEW: Dear Sadie by Approaching Troy

On May 3rd, 2015, Long Island based band Approaching Troy finally released their long awaited EP, Dear Sadie. It took the five piece alternative band a year to finally pull this all together, and after some bumps in the road, the final product was well worth the wait. Bringing back what almost sounds like 2005 emo/pop-punk, this band is definitely going to be making an impact in the music industry, most likely sooner than later.
The EP opens up with an introduction track, “Somnium”. The song is brief, but energetic. It opens up with one, simple line- “You pick up the pieces, and nothing is worth it”, setting the stage for what the listener has in store for the rest of the album. The rest of the track is purely instrumental, displaying the talents of all members. 10/10
The second track, “Here’s To Ohio”, begins with the same lyric as the first, but sung with much more passion. Though the song is simple in it’s rhyme scheme and vague in meaning, it does not disappoint melodically or instrumentally. 8.5/10
The third and title track, “Dear Sadie”, was definitely the perfect choice to represent the album. On top of being dramatic and catchy all at once, the song is extremely mysterious, as the band has emphasized that there’s a story behind it- and leaves us to wonder who Sadie is, or was. The harmonies are also beautiful. 10/10
The fourth track, “This Victory”, is a bit different from the prior tracks, but still fitting to the general theme. It has a slightly heavier sound than the others- a little bit like old Escape The Fate (Think 2004, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion), but peppier. 9/10
The EP comes to a close with a track titled “The Rescue”, and it's a bit of a curveball compared to it’s preceding track; the peppiness from “This Victory” carried over, and transitioned to a much more pop-punk song than emo song, while still carrying the same nostalgic energy throughout the entire album. 10/10
Though Approaching Troy is new, they are going places, and fast. Altogether, the album gets a 9.5/10. Be sure to catch them on their summer tour this August, and buy a copy of Dear Sadie on Bandcamp, iTunes or at a show!
