Last Sunday, Black N Blue
Productions put on a fantastic lineup for a Sunday matinee. Burn played their
first NYC show since this years Black n Blue Bowl. With that, they had Mindset
perform their last NYC show ever. The show was at Santos Party House. The last
time I was at this venue I saw Rotting Out's unofficial last New York performance. This venue is small
and probably holds a little more than 200 people. This show was not sold out, which I can not
believe because of how perfect this show was.
The first band of the day was Impact. Impact is a local hardcore band from Staten Island . The band’s drummer is a member of other Staten Island bands such as Vice, Nerves End, and I Disappear.
This was my third time seeing this band. Impact is an old school style NYHC
band. They have a lot two step parts. The played a really good set, which sucks because no one was moving. The band definitely deserved a better reaction than what they got.
The
second band of the day was Activator. Activator was a crossover thrash/hardcore
band. They showed a lot of metal influences, but overall the band was hardcore. The
vocalist made it hardcore but the guitarist had big metal approach. The
guitarist literally made the guitar look easy to play. The band overall was
kind of generic. It was cool mix of two styles and the band had some cool
songs, but nothing really stood out about their performance.
Regulate
took the stage and this was my fifth time seeing them. Regulate are a Long Island hardcore band. This band got a decent, but they got the first real reaction of they day. The crowd wasn't crazy, people who knew the band were going off.
Overall, Regulate had a great set, even though I think this was
the most tame Regulate show I’ve ever seen. Regulate is going to blow up in
2016 and people have to see this band. Regulate is one of the best upcoming
bands from Long Island .
The
Wilding Incident was up next. This was my second time seeing this NYHC band. I
remember seeing them at this year’s Black n Blue Bowl and they did not leave a
good impression on me. This band is another Lord Ezac side project. For those
who do not know who that is, he is the lead singer of Crown of Thornz, another
band that people really don't seem to be into. There was one guy going off
in the pit by himself, but overall I wasn't impressed.
King
Nine took the stage and the crowd almost woke up for this Long Island hardcore
band. This was my sixth time seeing them. From the first song until the last
song the band had some fans going off, but a decent amount of people in the crowd didn't seem to be getting into it. That kind of sucked, because King Nine definitely deserves better.
Wisdom
in Chains was up. This was my third time seeing this PAHC. This band actually
had a lot of people moving around for them. There were some stage dives and some
moshing. A lot of sing alongs and there was a twelve year old kid going off in
the pit, which I thought was so cool. A thing like that is why hardcore is a
great genre. Wisdom in Chains played a great set. I never really got into this
band but they have a great stage presence.
Mindset
was up and they only played, like, six or seven songs, but it was incredible.
Mindset is a straight edge hardcore band from Washington D.C.
The crowd was insane during Mindset. People were moshing side to side. The
stage dive game was incredible. For me, Mindset stole the show. What sucks is
that I will never see this band ever again which is terrible because have such
a great live presence. Ever since I saw a live video of them from This is
Hardcore 2014 I’ve been wanting to see them. If you get a chance to see them
before they go, do it because you do not want to miss out for this band.
Burn
was up and they played one hell of a set. This was my second time seeing this
NYHC band. I saw them earlier this year at the grand ballroom of Webster Hall.
Overall they were great. Seeing them at a small venue was very cool. The pit
was really crazy and a lot of people were stage diving. Burn is a band that
everyone should check out and also see because they really are a unique hardcore band. Burn played a fanatic set and if you were not at this show you
messed up big time.
