REVIEW- Hollow Theory (ep) by Eridian

I've put this off for a while, but I think that this finally deserves a review since I'll be catching them twice at two different shows through the band I manage. Eridian is a Long Island(Suffolk County) based deathcore/prog death outfit that I've known of for a while. And now that I've finally gotten a chance to sit down and really listen to their material outside of being mollywhopped at one of their shows, I can say that I'm thoroughly impressed with what they've done with this EP.
Instrumentally, this is meaty, and on the same hand very well thought out put together. The guitars have not only a really meaty tone that makes you want to beat somebody senseless, but I notice that they flow very well, with some very nice riffs placed in between the chugs. Also shout out to their guitar player(s) for those gnarly sweeps, I'm also super partial to the sampling placed on top of the other instrumental parts. The drums are very well patterned and give great flow to the whole ep, and there are some really complex fills that make for some really great "holy shit" moments. The bass tone is nice, and also compliments the rest of the instruments very nicely.
Vocally, this record is good, and the vocalist(s) have a phenomenal talent for them to say the very least, however I find that they're somewhat drab and almost winded at some points. Though I can say that that is my only real gripe with it on top of the fact that there isn't anything inherently mindblowing about them, they're great vocals, and that's just it, great, not amazing.
The samples I have to say are great, with some really gnarly bass drops thrown in for good measure. This makes it the assbeater that I know from their live shows, it goes in like a mace to a skull and comes out just wanting more blood. Overall, this release from Eridian is a solid 7/10, and I look foward to seeing how they evolve as a band in the future.

7/10
