Review- You're All Terrible People...But I Still Think You're Kinda Cool by The Shanks

Recently, Long Island based punk band The Shanks put out a full length album entitled You're All Terrible People...But I Still Think You're Kinda Cool, and after giving it a listen I was pleasantly surprised with the sound. It gave me a feeling of nostalgia from a time where I wasn't even born yet but was important to music in its own right the fuckin' 90's.
Instrumentally this album is a solid skate punk/ska punk sans the brass section. The guitars follow a general progression that is formulaic of the 90's, with a standard four chord progression. As do all the other instruments. It's highly formulaic but it works for what this band is trying to do. The instruments are catchy and overall fun to move to.
Vocally, this record evokes thoughts of skate parks and backyard barbecues and wrestling and beer and the 90's to the max, and where this album loses points for lack something unique that absolutely stands out to me, it earns points for fun and nostalgia, which balances it out. This band seems to just have fun, and not take itself too seriously, and that I can appreciate more than anything because of the amount of bands who DO take themselves seriously and really ought to not do that. I'd recommend picking this release up not only to support a hard working band, but also because its just a fun summer jam good for the upcoming warm weather.Overall, this release earns a solid 6.5/10
