Review: Tierra Y Libertad by Xibalba

Los Angeles hardcore outfit Xibalba has put out another release in the form of Tierra Y Libertad, and boy oh boy does it slam hard as fuck.

The band makes very good use out of its equipment, and with A standard tuning, it gives the guitar sounds a very crunchy feel that is just in your face and surrounding your ears in a crushing amount of sound. The guitar solos on the album, my personal favorite being the solo in the track Invierno, are very well done, and leave me with a strong feeling of death metal as opposed to hardcore. The Drums are something i'm very fond of because they don't fit into the hardcore genre that this band seems to cater to. On this particular record the drums sound more like slam than anything, and as mentioned before, it slams hard. This album beckons to me a similar sound from Cannibal Corpse with their recent release A Skeletal Domain in some aspects, mainly some of the drum and guitar parts.
Overall these tracks are super aggressive, and easy to mosh to. Anybody at one of their shows would do well to make sure you don't get walloped in the fucking face during any one of this band's breakdowns, a personal favorite being the breakdown at 3:23 in the track En Paz Descanse. Hearing this release makes me very excited to see them with All Out War soon, it's bound to be a great show and if your in the Long Island area and like this band, which you should, come and check them out.
Giving this album a solid 7.5/10 as it was enjoyable and I can't say it enough, slams super hard. For what it was trying to do it did sucessfully in making a hard hitting and agressive album. However I have to wonder what audience they're exactly catering to more, hardcore or death metal. Regardless, another great release from South LA's Xibalba, and looking foward to more!.
