Review- Stare by Havenfield

Harrison NY based Havenfield recently released Stare, and listening to it I get a really big Citizen and Balance and Composure vibe. This is their first EP, and it definitely comes out strong and I hope to hear more from these guys. On production, this release gives off a feeling of melancholy, with rough sounding but at the same time subdued guitar parts, and a melodic feeling to the tracks.
The guitars have very melodic and catchy lead parts, and the riffs are very nice. The bass-lines are tight and give good rhythm to the tracks. The drums are well tracked, and give good movement to the tracks as well. Instrumentally I get a huge Balance and Composure vibe, particularly their release Separation. The effects on this release are very well done, and just add to the strong atmospheric ambiance that the tracks give off.
Vocally, I get a strong Citizen vibe, but also a Balance and Composure vibe if Jon Simmons vocals were a little lighter. They're strong, and pleasant to listen to and add to the feeling of the tracks. Lyrically this album follows themes of other bands in the genre, it's formulaic and works well for this band. Overall, this release earns itself a 7/10, and I hope to hear alot more from this band in the future, possibly even seeing them play live at some point.
